On 25 September 2019, Minister-Preisdent of Thuringia Bodo Ramelow presented the first plans for a modern archaeological state museum in Thuringia to the public together with Alexander Hilge, Head of the Erfurt Building Department, Sven Ostritz, President of the State Office for Monument Preservation and Archaeology and Frank Schellenberg, Managing Director of actori. The museum could be built in the Defensionskaserne on the Petersberg in Erfurt by 2029. The prerequisite for the construction is a decision by the state parliament, which will be put to the vote in 2020.
In developing the concept actori supported the Free State of Thuringia and the State Office for Monument Preservation and Archaeology in various questions such as the analysis of possible locations, visitor potential and content planning.
More information on the planning status can be found in an article by MDR and a short video by the city of Erfurt (only available in German).
