#Culturegoesdigital? Digitalization in theatres

Study by actori

How far has digitalization advanced in theatres? To what extent are processes and work areas digitalized? Where does digitalization bring opportunities and challenges for theatre? How do theatres plan to invest in digitalization in the future?

actori investigated these questions and surveyed around hundred theatres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in September 2020.

The advancing digitalization is a central challenge – also for cultural institutions. Consumers now regard digital offers, online ticket purchases and responsive website design as standard services. Services that also require the use of digital technologies and networked processes within the institution. As a strategy consultancy in the fields of culture, education and entertainment actori also examines the developments in digitalization in the cultural sector and has surveyed around a hundred theatres in German-speaking countries online.

The results give a good overview of the current state of digitalization and allow a look into the future.

The study was conducted by Dr. Nora Pähler vor der Holte, project management actori GmbH and Merina Perocco Moreira, working student at actori GmbH until 2020.
